AI-based computer has predicted results of the Olympic Games in Sochi


The US team will top an unofficial team ranking at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, and "gold" in figure-skating will be given to the Canadian athlete Patrick Chan. These are the conclusions made by Perm State University (Perm, Russia) mathematicians who have applied the neural-network computing technologies for analysis of the national teams' success criterion for the last 40 years.

A delegation from Embassy of Sweden visited PSU


Perm State University is keen on developing relations with Swedish Institute including by academic and student exchanges. It was confirmed by the PSU administration on the 18thOctober 2013 during a meeting with a delegation from the Swedish Embassy in Russia and the staff of the Swedish Institute.

More than 2,000 first-year students were admitted to the University


Festive events dedicated to the Day of Knowledge were held on the 2nd of September, 2013. Perm State University welcomed its first-year students.  
 
Faculties` organizational meetings were the first event in the university lives of the new students. The Deans and the most active senior undergraduates addressed to them. The celebration continued at the University Square where they could listen to the vocal trio «No smoking».

Perm scientists visited the International Seminar in Macedonia


The Philology Faculty staff of PGNIU took part in the 46th International Seminar on the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture that was held under the auspices of the Government of Macedonia. The delegation included Natalia Boronnikova, an associate professor of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Department and a leading expert in the Macedonian language in Russia and Valeria Berezina, master`s degree student.

Students of Perm State University won bronze medal at the International Collegiate Programming Contest


ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) finished on July 3th in St. Petersburg. Evgeny Akimov, Andrey Zayakin and Danil Osherov, students of Faculty Mechanics and Mathematics under the guidance of Yuri Aidarov, lecturer from Department of Control Processes and Information Security became bronze winners of the competitions. The competition lasted for five hours. During that time, PSU students solved 6 out of 11 tasks.
