Summer Course on Human Rights in the Digital Era

22–29 June 

 

There has been a growing interest in the Human Rights Law on local and global level for the future lawyers. This intensive summer course will explore the extent to which Human Rights experience in Russia and other countries can be compared, shared and explained from the point of the new dynamically developing digital environment. Three specific areas to be examined include: human rights in the system of the relationship between the individual, society, state (such as judicial review, due process, and individual liberties such as freedom of speech, the analysis of international human rights bodies); human rights and equality in the social and economic spheres (such as free access to information in the social sphere in Russia); human rights in the sphere of legal proceedings (legal protection in civil litigation). The interdisciplinary course will also address issues ranged from freedom of expression in the digital era: contradictions, risks and threats to open access to public service and protection of  intellectual rights and the issues of international adoption. 

 

The course will be taught by international team Russian and American Scholars.

 

Professor John Cross, Grosscurth Professor of Law from the University of Louisville School of Law will teach on human rights protection and Intellectual rights in the digital era; Professor Michael Losavio ( the Deartment of Justice Administration, the University of Louisville) will be delivering online seminars on cyber crime and human rights.

 

The leading scholars of Perm State University Faculty of Law (Professor Pavel Pastukhov, Professor Natalia Chernyadyeva, Professor Galina Borisevich and others) will deliver seminars on various aspectis of human rights in civil and criminal law in Russia.

 

The distinguished lecture on protection of human rights in Perm Krai will be delivered by Tatiana, Margolina, the Ombudsman for Human Rights in Perm Krai,  professor of Law. 

 

One of the sessions will be conducted in the  Museum of the history of political repression "Perm-36", that used to be  the site of the harshest imaginable Soviet prison (GULAG) camp.

 

The course will be taught in English. Course materials will be provided in advance of departure to Perm for the course.
