Description of Internships

This course is focused on teaching the practical aspects of the geological study including extensive fieldwork, geological mapping, rock sampling, mineralogical and chemical sample analysis with usage of electron microscope and spectrometer, and geodynamic analysis of remote sensing data.

A two-week field trip to Siberia allows visits to the exciting places throughout the Khakassia and Tuva Republic. A variety of rock types occurring in this area gives the opportunity to study the versatile geological structures and to sample the rare minerals. Panning for gold will be an activity during the field trip. Visiting the museums and archaeological sites will introduce students to history and traditions of the aboriginal population. The field trip includes a train travel from Perm by Trans-Siberain railway.

After the field trip, students take the introductory lectures on the sample analysis technique and instrumentation. The analysis procedure and discussion of the results will be supervised by the Geological Faculty staff.

During the field trip the students are expected to visit remote places, be ready for steep climbing, hiking and working at the 1000–2000 m elevation. So please check your medical restrictions for such kind of work and have a relevant medical insurance.
