History of the faculty
The Faculty was created in 1960 as a result of the division of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty In 1951 professor I.G. Shaposhnikov has founded a chair of theoretical physics within which there are following lines of investigation: radiospectroscopy, theoretical hydrodynamics, physics of magnetic fluids and liquid crystals and elementary particle physics.
In 1953 the Department of Experimental Physics was founded on the basis of this. The Department of Metal Physics was set up.
In 1960s Perm University obtained its first electron microscope. Later on a laboratory of electron microscopy was created.
In 1997 the Department of Computer Systems and Telecommunication was set up. The specialists who work there are highly qualified. Most of the professors have academic degrees and some of them work with organizations in the city which develop information systems.
A brief description
Courses for specialists and bachelors are as follows:
Bachelors:
• Course “Physics” (specialisations: Fundamental physics, Physics of condensed state of matter),
• Course “Applied physics and mathematics”,
• Course ”Radiophysics” (specialisations: Electronics engineering, micro - and nanoelectronics, Telecommunication systems and information technology),
• Course “Nanotechnology and microsystems engineering”.
Specialists:
• Specialty ”Information security of automated systems” (specialisation: Security of open information systems).
Masters:
• Course “Physics” (specializations: Physics of acoustic and hydrodynamic wave processes, Physics of condensed state of matter, Physics of materials of nano - and microsystems technology),
• Course ”Radiophysics” (specializations: Electronics engineering, Micro - and nanoelectronics, Information processes and systems).
Post-graduate students:
• Course “Mathematics and mechanics” (specialisation: Physical hydrodynamics),
• Course "Physics and astronomy" (specialisations: Physics of condensed state, Theoretical physics, Instruments and methods of experimental physics),
• Course "Informatics and computer technology" (specialisation: systems analysis, management and processing of information).
There is a dissertation council (which deals with the work of Master’s and doctoral dissertations on specialties “Physics of condensed state” and “Mechanics of fluid, gas and plasma”).
All laboratories of the Faculty are supplied with first-class equipment.
Employment of the graduates of the faculty
Thanks to participation in Russian and international scientific projects while studying graduates easily find jobs in Russian and foreign universities, research centers and firms. They work in different research centers in Russia, France, Italy, USA, Spain and Israel, in academic and sectoral research institutes, in oil, iron and steel, power and other kinds of industry.
Graduates find prestigious high-paid jobs in banks, large-scale enterprises, in the field of telecommunications and in design organizations.
Information security specialists can work in the field of construction, the exploration and exploitation of systems and technologies of information security of automated systems, design and serve networks and communication systems, develop software and work as a system administrators. They can also find work at the telecommunication enterprises, in banking and public and commercial organizations.
