Brief Description of Research Activities

The scientific trend that has been developed since the 1970s is devoted to integral interpretation of philosophic poems, drama and prose as special substantive and structural entities. The trend also uses elements of the typological and structural analysis with regard to the specific tasks.

 

The special approach of philosophic and artistic discourse analysis which has been developed within the trend provides a new conceptual framework to discover the literary author’s intention.

 

The new approach allows to unite the interest of Contemporary Literary Science and Criticism towards the essence of philosophic discourse and empirical interpretation of philosophic literary works, as well as to provide the integral view of artistic and philosophic discourse.

 

The literary work, containing the author’s philosophic intention is not considered to be an explanation of a philosophic doctrine. As philosophic ideas in art are reflected in the form (poetics), the analysis of philosophic and artistic discourse is based on the investigation of a specific artistic structure; all this determines that the Theory of Philosophic Genres is established and developed.

 

In this case the concepts of meta-genre and its typological variant (philosophic meta-genre) are essentially for the trend in question. The meta-genre is understood as a structural, neutral to any type of literature, settled invariant of multiple individual historical ways of the world modelling united with a single artistic object. There are three variants of the meta-genre depending on a specific artistic object – philosophic, phenomenal and typological. The meta-genres are considered to be artistic world models. Integrity and specificity of each model is determined by the artistic object that determines in its turn the character of plot-generating oppositions, logic of plot unfolding, space and subject organisation of the image of the world and potential of image extension.

 

Thus, the Theory of Philosophic Genres is transformed into the methodology of analysis of philosophic meta-genre works which allows to carry out the profound analysis of the work and to find its place in the national and world literary process.
