Oxford University Students at PSU Summer School
This summer students from the University of Oxford spent two months at our university studying geology and chemistry. The internship they have completed is a part of the international internship programme for Oxford University students, which has Perm State University as a partner since December 2013.
The students who came to the Faculty of Geology had an opportunity to visit mineral deposits of the natural reserve Kuznetsk Alatau, the Western Sayan Mountains, South-Eastern Siberia following the route designed by the Faculty of Geology by train which also gave them some unique cultural experience. Samples of mountain rocks collected during this trip were analyzed in the laboratories of the University under the supervision of Oleg Kovin, professor of the Geology.
As for Chemistry students, they studied organic chemistry under supervision of Aleksander Butin, Chemical faculty professor, in the laboratories of the faculty of Chemistry.
Moreover, the students took part in annual international summer school “Geo-ecological problems of Preduralie”. During 3-days rafting on the Usva-river they have been exploring touristic potential of Ural region. Apart from educational programme Oxford students had an diverse cultural programme visiting open-air museum of Khokhlovka village, Opera theatre, having excursions around the town with PSU students, doing sports, and even having a course of Russian language.
In the end of their internship Oxford students have presented the reports on the researches they held.
