A Delegation From the University of Louisville Visits Perm State University

Between October 9th and 16th a delegation from the University of Louisville (USA) visited Perm State University. During their visit they assisted to PSU centennial’s celebrations and participated in the international symposium entitled ‘Security of Individuals, State and Society: Challenges and Perspectives’.

 

This symposium was held from October 11th to 13th at PSU. It is the fruit of the co-operation between PSU’s Faculty of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures (Department of English Language and Intercultural Communication), the University of Louisville’s Faculty of Law (Department of Criminal Procedures and Criminal Studies, Department of Entrepreneurship, Arbitration and Civil Litigation), and Gorky Universal Library’s Science Centre.

 

Professors from six countries attended conferences on the following topics:

- ICT and Information Security; 

- Economic and Financial Security; 

- Health and Environmental Security of Children and at-Risk Populations; 

- Security and the Justice System: The Case of Transnational cybercrimes – Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking.

 

 

The American professors Michael Losavio, John Cross, Deborah Keeling, Terry Keeling and Adel Almahgraby came to Perm State University to participate in the symposium. Dr. Debora Keeling delivered a paper on ‘Public Security & Digital Forensics in the United States’. Dr. Losavio and Dr. Almahgraby gave a presentation entitled ‘Security for the Global Information World’. Michael Losavio also led the Skype session with the presenters from India, Korea, China, Spain and the USA.

 

 

On October 13th, Professor John Cross (Brandies School of Law, University of Louisville) discussed the issue of reforming the patent system for security-related inventions during the panel discussion entitled ‘Business Law and Security of Individuals and Entities’. The audience included 90 attendees from various institutions in Perm. The U.S. guests highly appreciated the event and expressed their interest in organizing a similar symposium in Louisville in 2017.

 

 

Besides this international symposium the professors of University of Louisville were invited to the ‘Perm – Louisville Tea Party’ at the Leninsky District Public Centre. This event was hosted by the Perm City Duma, the ‘Perm-Louisville’ Sister City Committee, as well as private citizens. Marcus Micheli, Consul General of the USA in Yekaterinburg flew in Perm to attend this event, during which he praised and expressed his gratitude for the successful collaboration existing between Perm State University and all American universities present at that party.
