A delegation from Montana’s visit to Perm State University
From 16th to 5th April a delegation from the University of Montana Western, (Montana, the USA) which consisted of a group of students and one of their professors John Xanthopoulos, visited Perm State University. The visit took place as part of an agreement between the two universities, which gives students an opportunity to take part in an exchange programme and study at the partner university for free.
The students studied at the Faculty of Geography. During their stay in Perm they familiarised themselves with the geography, culture, historical heritage and the modern life of the Perm Krai region. For example, they visited the Belogorsky Monastery, where they enjoyed the magnificent view over the Russian countryside as well as vising numerous other churches and cultural sites around the Perm Region. They also had the opportunity to watch an opera at Perm’s famous Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The students also participated in workshops, dedicated to the issues of intercultural cooperation, and visited PSU Radio station.
The students lived with the families of PSU students and professors which gave them an excellent chance to get to know Perm and the lifestyle of its inhabitants from the perspective of people living here. They were also able to try the local and national cuisine and some even learnt how to make Russian dishes. All of the student commented on how welcome the families had made them feel and thanked all those who had made their trip so enjoyable and memorable.
The visit continued the exchange tradition between the universities. In 2013-2014 two groups of PSU students studied at the UMW and in 2015-2016 another visit to Montana is planned.
